A joint project with Stephanie Glauber.

Objects and their surfaces—which have traveled from the physical to the digital realm and back again through various media forms—are the protagonists of this video. In their transformation from original to photograph, to digital scan, to printed object, and finally to video recording, only fragments of their origin remain. Human traces interrupt what is fundamentally a digital image.

The sound composition follows the exact same principle. Analog sounds are recorded and systematized, resulting in a hybrid of human-generated and digital sound. Despite the objects’ indefinite functions, the cinematic methods of modern product presentation and the visual language of high-gloss advertising aesthetics effectively transform them into affective fetish objects.
